When I first met with my therapist about treatment for my eating disorder, she suggested I also work with a “Recovery Coach.” I didn’t know what she meant, or that such a thing existed … and then I met Brandy 😊
After 15 minutes talking to Brandy I knew she was going to be a key part of my treatment team. My only wish is that I found her sooner! In conjunction with psychotherapy and nutrition visits, coaching is a partnership that helped me work through the specific actions I personally needed to take, uncovering ideas or thoughts that motivated me or got in the way of my recovery. My therapist gave me suggestions or guidelines, but it was Brandy that helped me put the words into action. Brandy is positive, enthusiastic, supportive, trusting, focused, goal-oriented, knowledgeable, observant, respectful, patient and a clear communicator … the list goes on!
Among the many things Brandy taught me, perhaps most important is that an eating disorder is hardly ever a straightforward process. Because an eating disorder is often a means of coping with or feeling in control of difficult emotions or situations, the idea of life without it can be very frightening. You may feel conflicted about recovery. Brandy is there to remind you that there is always a way back to “normal,” a better normal without ED!!! You are worth the time and energy to recover. You are on your own journey and your own path, and no one can take that away from you! When my family and friends didn’t understand what I was going through, Brandy was always there supporting and routing for me – just a text message or weekly session away. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for Brandy’s collaboration and input on my treatment team. Truly thankful and blessed to have found her!

After discharging from treatment, I chose to participate in recovery coaching instead of IOP (intensive outpatient), and it was the absolute right decision for my recovery. Brandy and I worked together to create a safe, open, supportive environment in which I can share and struggle without judgement. From grocery shopping to painting recovery rocks, Brandy helped me through the day to day of battling an eating disorder by offering insight based on personal experience. With Brandys help, I’ve learned to celebrate my wins and accept my struggles. I’ve learned that my body, mind, and sense of self are sacred, and it positively affects how I treat myself in my daily life. It sounds cliche, but I genuinely didn’t know I could feel this happy after struggling for so long. Brandy gave and continues to give me hope for the future.

I had my first experience with Brandy and recovery coaching and found it extremely helpful. With a full practice, I don't have the time to do the meal sessions and provide the support outside of sessions that is so often needed. Brandy filled that need and it made all the difference. She was able to have meals, supportive check ins and follow ups and kept me in the loop. She has a warm, enthusiastic style that's easy to connect with, provides hope and she really knows her stuff. I look forward to working with her again!
